ABX Air Employees Raise Money for Cancer Center

CEO Joe Hete sports pink as fundraising challenge is met

WILMINGTON, OHIO - November 8, 2010 - ABX Air employees dug into their pockets last month to raise money to help patients at the Foster J. Boyd, MD, Regional Cancer Center at Clinton Memorial Hospital (CMH) in Wilmington. The fundraising effort was part of a campaign to mark National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Employees at other companies located at Wilmington Air Park--including Airborne Maintenance & Engineering Services (AMES) and ABX Equipment & Facility Services (AEFS)--also participated in the campaign.

CEO Joe Hete issued a goal: if employees raised more than $500 in donations, he would wear a pink shirt to work, something he has never done. The good-natured challenge was quickly picked up, and by the end of the month more than $2,000 had been collected.

"I'm very proud of our folks," said Hete. "They continue to step up to the plate again and again for worthy causes, and helping local cancer patients is one of the best causes I can think of. I'm not crazy about wearing a pink shirt, but it's well worth it."

ABX Air employees Beth Allen, Holly McCammon, and Jean Radcliffe spearheaded the effort. Money was raised through the sale of homemade baked goods, a casual dress day, as well as from donations given purely for the good of the cause. Panera Bread kindly donated some items for the bake sale.

Last Friday, Hete--wearing a pink shirt as promised--delivered the money to Dana Dunn, Director of Community Development for CMH, and Becky Allen, Director of the Foster J. Boyd, MD, Regional Cancer Center.

"This money will go into the Cancer Assistance Program of the CMH Foundation," said Dunn, "which helps defray expenses for patients who need cab rides to treatment, social service assistance, and prescription drugs. I want to thank all the ABX air employees who donated on behalf of CMH Regional Health System, the cancer center and the CMH Foundation.”

The CMH Foundation is a fund-raising entity that supports CMH Regional Health System.
